GREYHAVEN TO EMBARK ON UK TOUR & ANNOUNCE NEW EP

Greyhaven band photo

Ever since their inception in 2015, London alt-rock five-piece Greyhaven have been on a swift upward trajectory. The band’s debut EP, ‘The Flood’, saw them build a stout and loyal fanbase in their home city.

However, it wasn’t until the band’s sophomore EP, ‘State Of Mind’, which was produced by Daniel Kerr (Shields, Create To Inspire, Despite My Deepest Fear), that they really took flight.

The riff slingers toured the UK extensively in support of the EP and released three well-received videos. The release gained rampant traction and a host of favourable reviews and coverage, most notably with Scuzz TV and Kerrang!, as well as a coveted slot on Metal Hammer‘s front cover CD.

At the start of this year, the outfit headed back to the studio with Daniel Kerr to begin work on their new EP, ‘Breathe’. This release shines and captivates on every level.

Compressing four tracks of engulfing modern rock loaded with colossal vocal melodies and astute guitar work, the release is a game changer for the band.

The EP lands in January next year, but before then, the alt-rockers have dropped a new video, ‘Truth’. The single is set to coincide with a UK tour with rising Brit heavyweights As Lions.

GREYHAVEN

GREYHAVEN (from l-r): Edd Kerton (bass/vocals), Connor Tate (drums), Sam Paterson (vocals), Jim White (guitar), Alex Hills (guitar)

Greyhaven are an alternative rock five-piece from London.

Since forming in 2014, the outfit have released two positively received EPs, played live with the likes of Architects, and have built up a dedicated fan base with a diversely influenced sound that they describe as “a mixture of post-hardcore, pop and anthemic, heavy rock.

With a third EP planned for release in the future, and about to unleash an explosive new music video for one of their recent singles, I chatted with guitarist Alex Hills about what makes them tick.

INTERVIEW by ZAK SLOMAN

How did the band get together initially?

Initially, the band was just me writing some songs in my room, but I eventually decided to start putting together an actual band. Sam was the vocalist in my old band and Jim was a friend I’d met online quite a few years before. Shortly after that, we found Edd and Connor and the line-up was complete.

How did the name Greyhaven come about?

It’s a reference to The Lord Of The Rings actually! The Grey Havens is the name of the port that the Elves use to leave Middle Earth.

What are the band’s musical influences?

We draw influences from all over the place. Older rock bands like Queen, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi definitely were the bands that initially shaped my music taste, though the more obvious influences would be modern bands like Trivium, Alexisonfire, Neck Deep, Mastodon, Emperor, Rise To Remain, Don Broco, Young Guns, The 1975. We definitely have diverse tastes.

What is your approach towards songwriting?

We tend to write all of the instrumentals first and then write the vocal parts afterwards. I’ve always been an advocate of writing what you want to write, rather than worrying about what other people might want you to write.

The band’s second EP ‘State of Mind’ came out last autumn. How has the reaction been since its release?

The reaction has definitely been positive. The first single ‘On & On’ found its way onto various prestigious radio stations, as well as airing on Scuzz TV. The tours we did in support of the release have also been pretty crazy, it’s been very humbling for us to see the support that we can receive all over the country.

How is it playing live and touring?

As I mentioned earlier, it has been pretty crazy. We’ve started to gain more of a dedicated fan base now and they never cease to surprise us when we play live. We’re all looking forward to seeing the fan base grow with us over the coming years.

What’s planned for the near future?

We’re releasing the video for ‘Brother’ later this month, and we’re going to be announcing a few dates in support of that. After that, we’re going to be starting to prepare our next EP for release, while maybe releasing a few acoustic videos and even a cover in the time between now and then.

What is the band’s long-term aim?

We just want to have fun really. Hopefully, we can make this into a career and hopefully, we can have the positive effect on some of our fans that a lot of our favourite bands have had on us as well.

GREYHAVEN PREPARE TO REVEAL EXPLOSIVE NEW VIDEO

greyhaven-band-photo

High flying heavy alt-rock unit Greyhaven are prepared to reveal their explosive new video for ‘Brother’; the track is pulled from the band’s current EP ‘State Of Mind’, now out in stores.

Greyhaven express a potent blend of alt-rock that is fueled by crushing riffs, evoking melodies, and hooks that will cling to you like static electricity.

They have also taken from a slew of influences cascading from many quarters, but predominantly from the likes of Rise to Remain, Architects, Alexisonfire and Underoath.

Born at the start of 2015, the band soon earned their stripes as they hit the live circuit racking up shows with Create To Inspire, Idols Of Apathy, Vera Grace and The Afterparty.

The crew continued to build with the release of their debut EP ‘The Flood’, which saw the five-piece undertake a glut of successful shows across the UK, which served to earn them a dedicated fan-base.

The EP picked up a range of glowing reviews and the release of their debut music video for the title track also helped the band pin down a number of profile shows throughout the year.

After the success of their debut EP, Greyhaven commenced work with Dan Kerr(Shields, Create To Inspire, Despite My Deepest Fear) at Avenue Studios on their sophomore release, ‘State Of Mind’.

The new EP is a sturdy evolution from the band’s debut release and aptly showcases the band’s progression and growing maturity.

Soon after, the rising rockers released their second music video for the track ‘On & On’ in collaboration with Young Minds, a charity assisting young people with mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety, which is a running theme in the EP and something very close to the band’s heart.

The EP and music video are both being heavily featured on major radio and TV stations such as Kerrang! Radio and Scuzz TV.

The quintet are now braced to kick on again with the release of their blistering new video single ‘Brother’, which arrives next month. Don’t miss it!
